“Combined depiction of our most personal and useful objects that are temporary and once THROWN AWAY have no identity or ownership. The evidence is a cumulative anonymous pile of non-biodegradable trash.”
1DAY is based on a series of small handcrafted drawings, which are sectional details of objects that we encounter on a daily basis. These objects have been distorted in size to create a unique point of view and perhaps a different perspective because their impact is much larger than meets the eye.
These are everyday items that have been collected and gathered from nearby lakeside, off the streets and my own usage. A vast amount of energy, thought, and engineering exists behind such innovations; yet, we use them for a fraction of their lifespan. We have become so dependent on many of these items, if not all of them. In fact, they are nothing but disposable, everyday items to us. Imagine seven billion people using these plastic objects every day in the world. Even if some were being recycled, there is a lot of energy involved to incinerate those that can be melted and reused, most of these do not get recycled.
I have been seeking to raise awareness regarding the IMPACT versus USAGE. The usage is a spec in time, while comparing it to the birth of such objects along with its commute to destination, and the remainder of its existence, be it in the ocean, landfill or our food and water supply. These polystyrene foams and plastics are here to stay and will be the relics for the future generation to deal with.
